Additional Ideas For Opening Sequence

In order to make the idea of our opening sequence more appealing, our group today discussed the further potential possibilities which could enhance the scene.

  • Firstly, due to the weak name for the film, we felt a name more indicative of the genre or the themes being displayed in the film would be needed. We have considered potential names such as:
  1.  Corruption- I personally feel that this name gives a stronger indication of the overall genre we are attempting to hint at, due to the fact that cases that involve corruption are within the conventions of an action/thriller film.
  2. The Case - The name gives a more mysterious theme to the film, which is suitable due to the spy references and themes intended to be used throughout. "The Case" also emphasizes the main prop used within the opening sequence, being a briefcase. And therefore suits it further.
  • We felt the constant emphasis on the protagonists repetitive life could lead to a lack of excitement within the opening sequence itself, which would therefore show little indication of the genre of the film. We have therefore attempted to present the character in a different light and add further detail. For example, his costume will be mainly designer brands, which shows him to be a consumer and vulnerable to big corporations, and shows little morale.
  •   Rather than keep the story flowing in chronological order, we felt that a circular structure could highlight the repetitive nature of the protagonists life as well as push the conventions of a typical action movie.
  • In order to further emphasize the themes and motifs being displayed throughout, we felt a use of narrative throughout the initial stages of the scene could allow the audience to understand several aspects, whilst maintaining a high level of narrative enigma, as some aspects of the scene will not be mentioned.
There are several pleasing aspects about our planning for the opening sequence currently, such as the fact that our storyboard is complete and a timetable has been devised. Both of these developments will help us maintain a structured approach to filming, and we will therefore not be making up certain things as we go along.
