Opening Sequence Filming #1

Today was the start of the filming for our opening sequence. It was very progressive. This is due to the maintained focus on the task at hand and the completion of the aspects of the scene we intended to complete.

We decided to film parts of scene 2, where we display the repetitive cycle of the protagonists life. We achieved this by shooting several scenes of me walking for short amounts of time, with different backgrounds. We intend this to connote an idea that the world is changing constantly yet there is little difference to the character. We shot the stage of the scene in which the protagonist is scene walking out of his house also. Several different camera shots, ranging from extreme wide shots to close ups have been included in order for us to evaluate which camera angle looks most effective in connoting aspects of the plot.

These aspects are key to our opening sequence due to the emphasis on the lifestyle of the character, and the audience are able to gain a general idea of the nature of this. The protagonist is seen walking in a reluctant, miserable fashion. This is mainly done in order to gain an extent of sympathy from the audience towards the main character. This is because our target audience are likely to be a similar audience, and they can therefore relate to the situation being displayed.

Despite this, we had to comprehend with the fact that it is getting increasingly dark. Our opening sequence idea does not consist of shots being filmed in the dark and therefore we will look at the possibility of filming at earlier times. Thankfully we were able to film the shots in rather quick fashion and therefore avoided darkness, but it is likely that on other days we will plan to film further, therefore parts would be filmed in darkness. In order to avoid this, we will look to film at earlier times. For example, lunch time at school or during free periods.

We are next scheduled to film on Thursday, at an earlier time. We will look to film features of the final scene and potentially other features within scene 2.

Overall, today was successful in terms of completion of the scenes we planned on filming. The variety of shots also gives us a chance to evaluate which one would make our opening sequence most effective.
